Counselor in Training Program 2026
What is the Counselor in Training Program?
The Canton Parks, Recreation, Senior & Community Services Department is seeking responsible, outgoing, students entering 9th grade through 11th grade interested in working with children in a fun, fast-paced, outdoor setting during this upcoming summer. Counselors in Training (C.I.T.) will assist camp staff with planning and leading activities, supervising campers on-site and even get the chance to lead their own activities!
Each C.I.T. will be assigned one week to spend at Explorers Day Camp (Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm) working alongside camp staff. C.I.T.'s may be invited back for additional weeks at the discretion of the Parks, Recreation, Senior & Community Services administrative staff.
Benefits of Becoming a C.I.T.
Being a C.I.T. is extremely rewarding and is a great resume builder for college. It provides the chance to build experience and fundamental leadership skills that employers and schools look for.
Application Process
Interested individuals are required to complete the application form listed below and attach a reference letter from a non-family member (teacher, coach, etc). Applications will be accepted starting Monday, April 6th. Application materials must be dropped off to the Parks, Recreation, Senior & Community Services Office or emailed to cboughton@townofcantonct.org by no later than Friday, May 15th to be considered. Candidates will be contacted for interviews on a rolling basis. There are a limited number of C.I.T.'s that will be admitted into the program, so do not wait to apply!
Admission
After submitting the application and completing an interview, successful candidates will receive an acceptance email into the Counselor in Training Program. This email will contain a C.I.T. General Form and list the week that the successful candidate is being offered. C.I.T.'s are required to complete the form and accept/decline the week offer by the deadline provided in the email. Once completed, the Recreation & Senior Services Supervisor will reach out to parents/guardians for payment. Additional week offers may come after the C.I.T. has attended their scheduled week at the discretion of the Parks, Recreation, Senior & Community Services administrative staff.
