This five week program is a great way for children to participate in competitive swimming while becoming stronger swimmers. The focus will be on improving technique, speed and stroke refinement while having a safe and fun time in the water. The season runs from June 26 through the end of July, with 2 swim meets included in the schedule. Pool members receive a $10 discount! Discount is automatically applied at checkout. Make sure to register for membership first, then register for swim team. Registration deadline: 6/17
Update: Flyers will practice from 8-8:30am, then will be joined by the Flippers from 8:30-9:20am. Flyers swimmers will be able to swim from 8-9:20am.
FLIPPERS: Swimmers 7-9/10 years old with little to no competitive experience. Swimmers should be comfortable in the water and be able to swim a complete lap (width/25 yards) without assistance. All four competitive strokes will be taught as well as the corresponding starts, finishes and/or turns. This group will have a ton of fun gaining strength, skill endurance, speed and confidence! Swimmers will swim pool widths for the program.
Practice Times: Monday-Thursday 8:30-9:20am & Friday as scheduled by coaches. No practice July 4.
FLYERS: Swimmers 10-15 with some competitive experience and/or the ability to swim 25 yard laps with a knowledge of at least 2-3 of the competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly). Swimmers will gain knowledge, stroke technique, strength and speed in all four competitive strokes, starts, turns and finishes all while having fun. Coaches will work on refining strokes and assisting swimmers develop speed and confidence to become competitive swimmers. Swimmers will swim the width of pool and may transition to long course based on coaches discretion.
Practice Times: Monday-Thursday 8:00-9:20am & Fridays as scheduled by coaches. No practice July 4.
Coaches recommend swimmers try to attend at least three practices a week.
Meet & Greet - June 15 @ 5pm
Not sure about swim team? Join us at Mills Pond Pool for our meet & greet where you will be able to talk with the coaches about the season. The session will feature a small swim session to see how comfortable your child is in a competitive swim environment.
Equipment/Swimsuits
Parents/Guardians will receive information with provided websites to purchase suits. Swim cap and goggles are also needed for swim team. Suits for swim team should be solid black if you choose to purchase elsewhere.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines: As of 2/15/23, the CT DPH has not released safety guidelines for summer sports. If posted Canton Parks and Recreation will adopt the DPH policies for Summer 2023. The policies to be posted must be practiced during the 2023 sports programs with adjustments based on local health department and town guidelines. Please note, regulations and policies may change before and during the program. Participants will need to adhere to the current policies and any mid-season changes to continue with the program.
