Join the party and enjoy the health benefits of this energetic, feel good, low impact aerobic workout. This class is a total body workout set to Latin and international rhythms. We use the same music and choreography as Zumba Basic; the routines are just modified to be more gentle on your knees. No experience necessary, just a willingness to dance and have fun while logging at least 5,000 steps on your fitness tracker!In-person Classes:  Pick your schedule - purchase this flex schedule to be able to attend when it works for you. 8 class pass; classes run continuously throughout the year. Once you take 8 classes, register again to replenish your pass. Class schedule listed in the registration section below. NEW! Starting in April, in-person classes will be offered on both Tuesdays & Saturdays. Your 8 class pass can be used for either day! No in-person class: 5/27/23 & 7/4/23How live stream classes work: 1. Register for the class (below) 2. Classes will be held through ZOOM - an online streaming service. This is a user-friendly platform will allow users to connect to classes through phone, tablet or computer at home. Additional instructions provided in the "Additional Forms and Files" section. 3. Use link provided to access classes on the date and time the class is scheduled. This is a great class for the active little ones who are looking for a foundation of tumbling and fitness. Skills are taught through a mix of song and dance as well as obstacle courses and other fun games! Parent/caregiver participation is required for the ages 18 months to 3 year class.If registering for the 2-5 year old class, all children must be able to participate independently. Space is limited for this class, so don't wait to register!Spring Session: No class 4/10/23COVID-19 Safety Guidelines: The CT DPH has not released safety guidelines for sport activities. If posted, Canton Parks and Recreation will adopt the DPH policies for 2023. The policies to be posted must be practiced during the 2023/24 programs with adjustments based on local health department and town guidelines. A full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Using lightly weighted drumsticks engineered for exercising, Pound transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Designed for all fitness levels! Easily modifiable, Pound provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, toning up and rockin' out!  Participants need to bring a mat and water bottle; pound sticks are provided by the instructor. Please review the following COVID-19 safety protocols prior to registering: Masks are optional in all Canton municipal buildings and facilities, regardless of vaccination status.Social distancing still encouraged during physical fitness classes. Come to the Canton Community Center for Tot Time! An opportunity for toddlers to play, explore and burn some energy. The space will be set up for fun and movement! Fitness MatrixThis fun beginner-to-intermediate class provides a full-body workout using multiple fitness modalities: resistance training, cardio, balance, and stretching using resistance bands, light weights, steps, POUND Ripstix®, occasional dance fitness moves, and chairs for optional standing support. Each class varies slightly, but each works all major and some minor muscle groups. Bring your own tools or we can provide them. Instructor Kathi Boratko is an Athletics and Fitness Association of America™ (AFAA) certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor and owner of FITMiX with Kathi.

Beyond the Bell: Canton Intermediate School (Grades 4-6) Beyond the Bell is an after school program that focuses on creating a fun and safe space for kids to develop friendships, create art, burn off extra energy from the day, work on homework and explore interests. Beyond the Bell has scheduled activities and crafts throughout the afternoon that will allow your child time to do everything from completing homework to playing games with their friends!Beyond the Bell is offered Monday-Friday and is held at Cherry Brook Primary School. Canton Intermediate School students will be traveling on the Route 9 bus to Cherry Brook Primary School at C.I.S. dismissal. The program runs from school dismissal until 6:00pm on regular days and 5:30pm on half days. Please make sure your child has an extra snack and a refillable water bottle. Beyond the Bell is not offered during school vacations or on holidays and snow days. Bus Seat LimitationsDue to C.I.S. students having to travel to Cherry Brook to attend Beyond the Bell, we have a strict maximum for the number of C.I.S. students able to attend Beyond the Bell this year. We can only have 8 C.I.S. students attend Beyond the Bell this year. With that in mind, please do not wait until the last minute to sign your child(ren) up for Beyond the Bell. Due to these bus seat limitations, we will also not be offering the single date option for C.I.S. students. YogaCHI is for all levels and everyone is encouraged to try it out! In this gentle but energizing class we will intelligently combine disciplines of Yoga, Pilates and CHI-Gong. The emphasis will be on exercises to deepen the breath, strengthen the muscles of the "core" as well as upper body, arms and legs combined with deep stretching and ending with therapeutic relaxation techniques. The class is designed to bring energy and balance into the body, mind and spirit, cultivate health, vitality and longevity. Beyond the Bell has scheduled activities and crafts throughout the afternoon that will allow your child time to do everything from completing homework to playing games with their friends!Beyond the Bell is offered Monday-Friday and is held at Cherry Brook Primary School. Canton Intermediate School students will be traveling on the Route 9 bus to Cherry Brook Primary School at C.I.S. dismissal. The program runs from school dismissal until 6:00pm on regular days and 5:30pm on half days. Please make sure your child has an extra snack and a refillable water bottle. Beyond the Bell is not offered during school vacations or on holidays and snow days. Bus Seat LimitationsDue to C.I.S. students having to travel to Cherry Brook to attend Beyond the Bell, we have a strict maximum for the number of C.I.S. students able to attend Beyond the Bell this year. We use the same music and choreography as Zumba Basic; the routines are just modified to be more gentle on your knees. No experience necessary, just a willingness to dance and have fun while logging at least 5,000 steps on your fitness tracker!In-person Classes:  Pick your schedule - purchase this flex schedule to be able to attend when it works for you. 8 class pass; classes run continuously throughout the year. CAS asks that participants bring their own.  Community Camp Themes:* Ball mastery (fakes, moves, and turns)* Passing & receiving* Dribbling & moving with the ball * Shooting & finishing* World Games and tournamentsCAS will provide soccer balls and other playing equipment. Beyond the Bell has scheduled activities and crafts throughout the afternoon that will allow your child time to do everything from completing homework to playing games with their friends!Beyond the Bell is offered Monday-Friday and is held at Cherry Brook Primary School. Canton Intermediate School students will be traveling on the Route 9 bus to Cherry Brook Primary School at C.I.S. dismissal. Spring ClinicAnyone interested in volleyball, and potentially playing in high school should attend our Spring Clinic. The clinic will be instructed by Canton's varsity head coach Joe Sobowicz and his coaching staff, along with some of the players on our current high school girls varsity team. It is 2x a week for 4 weeks (8 total sessions) after school where we will go over volleyball basics, develop our skills, and play a lot of fun games to improve! This program is designed to have fun, learn, and prepare yourself to keep playing on club teams and for the high school team potentially in the future. Fitness MatrixThis fun beginner-to-intermediate class provides a full-body workout using multiple fitness modalities: resistance training, cardio, balance, and stretching using resistance bands, light weights, steps, POUND Ripstix®, occasional dance fitness moves, and chairs for optional standing support. Each class varies slightly, but each works all major and some minor muscle groups. Design personalized pencil cases, sculpt sweet treat clay desserts and learn how to draw perspective landscapes. Plus, paint goofy animals on canvases, create colorful pillowcases and sculpt clay flying pigs. These projects and more introduce children to a world of artistic wonder while we encourage their own original ideas and their own unique perception and interpretation of art.

Welcome to Music with Miss Jean!This guitar led sing-along class consists of music and activities that keep everybody moving. This class is a great way to stay active, while engaging with your child and other caregivers. The format will entail a structured fitness set as well as a walk. All fitness levels are welcomed! The class is designed to help kick start your fitness journey and find a community of caregivers. Weather permitting: classes may be held outdoors at Mills Pond Park. Participants will be notified if class will be at the park. Walks will take place in the area near park or on the trails in the surrounding area.Equipment: Please bring a mat, water and stroller. Canton P & R will supply light weights, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please bring toys for your children to play with when they need a break from the workout. Some, not all, exercises may include an option to have your child participate; however, child participation is not required to complete the program.Participants must be cleared to exercise by a health care provider if recently (8 weeks) postpartum.

Children learn the basics of baseball including how to throw, catch, hit, and the positions of America’s favorite pastime; all while having fun in a safe environment.  T-ball takes place on Saturdays spread over 5 weeks in April and May at Mills Pond Park. Participants get a cool team t-shirt to keep! Parent volunteer coaches are needed, if you are interested in volunteering please call 860-693-5808 or email Kellie Faust, recreation supervisor at kfaust@townofcantonct.org.REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 3/20/23 (or earlier if registration fills)Participants must be at least 4 years old by the start date of the program. If registration is full, parents/guardians are encouraged to register on the waitlist. The waitlist does not guarantee a spot on a team. If a spot opens up or if there is enough interest for another team to be made, you will be contacted. Team requests will be taken up until the regular registration deadline. Requests will be taken into consideration, but are not guaranteed. Equipment: All players are advised to have their own gloves and sneakers/cleats. Cleats are great if you have them, but not necessary. Comfortable play/gym clothes are recommended. Canton Parks & Recreation has some bats and helmets available to share among the teams, but participants are welcomed to bring their own. If you are purchasing your own bat, any tee ball bat will be fine - The majority of Tee Ball players should use a 25" or 26" bat. The weight of the bat starts as low as 13 oz and will be as heavy as 18 oz. The majority should use a bat that is 15 or 16 oz. Schedule: Each Saturday players will meet with their team for a practice (about 1/2 the session) followed by a game.  Volunteer coaches needed! Join the party and enjoy the health benefits of this energetic, feel good, low impact aerobic workout. This class is a total body workout set to Latin and international rhythms. We use the same music and choreography as Zumba Basic; the routines are just modified to be more gentle on your knees. No experience necessary, just a willingness to dance and have fun while logging at least 5,000 steps on your fitness tracker!In-person Classes:  Pick your schedule - purchase this flex schedule to be able to attend when it works for you. 8 class pass; classes run continuously throughout the year. Once you take 8 classes, register again to replenish your pass. A full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Each class varies slightly, but each works all major and some minor muscle groups. The single date option means that your child is only registered to attend Beyond the Bell one day during the month (ex. "John Smith will attend Beyond the Bell on Thursday, September 8th").
